EUGENE, Ore. – Arcimoto Inc. has agreed to recall certain model-year 2020-2022 three-wheel electric motorcycles to rectify potentially malfunctioning brake lights.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-175 the 516 electric vehicles within the recall population may have brake-pressure switches which might corrode after exposure to sale and chemicals found in deicers. Should this occur, the brake lights might remain in a constant illuminated condition.
The vehicles within the recall are: Arcimoto Deliverator 2020-2022; Arcimoto FUV 2019-2022; Arcimoto Rapid Responder 2021-2022, and Arcimoto Roadster 2020-2022
The NHTSA report documented the cause, “The brake pressure switch lacked dielectric grease in the connectors. This allowed salt water and winter de-icers the ability to saturate the connectors. This caused a disruption in the connectors that allowed the rear brake lights to remain open in certain cases which caused the brake lights themselves to remain on.”
The report further stated the safety risk as, “Brake lights are an important part of the brake warning system. The brake lights are devices that allow drivers that are following behind another vehicle enough warning to come to a stop if the vehicle that they are following is slowing down or preparing to come to a complete stop.”
Arcimoto has not prescribed a remedy nor has a notification schedule been established.
