2 Toyota RAV4 EV

Toyota

We all have heard of the Toyota RAV4 Prime. The plug-in hybrid SUV has taken the U.S. by storm and is one of the most selling vehicles at the moment. However, there’s been one called the RAV4 EV that escaped the limelight of its PHEV counterpart. Discontinued nearly a decade ago, the RAV4 EV can still be found on the streets and Toyota still caters to the service and maintenance of this SUV. The RAV4 EV was Toyota’s brave attempt at introducing electric utility vehicles even before anyone else dared to think of it.

The RAV4 EV made use of old-school Nickel metal hydride batteries and took 18 long seconds to go from 0 to 60 MPH. The top speed was somewhere around 70 MPH. However, the RAV4 EV went out of production in 2014, owing to a couple of reasons. But Toyota still has a stronghold in the sustainable transportation business with many notable vehicles in its lineup.

1 GM EV1

Another EV that couldn’t catch up with the rising trend — is GM EV1. This revolutionary vehicle made its debut back in 1996 and was ahead of its time in terms of design and technology. The GM EV1 was a true pioneer in the world of electric vehicles. It featured an aerodynamic body, advanced battery technology (26 heavy lead-acid batteries), and an impressive range (100 to 120 miles) for its time. With zero tailpipe emissions and quiet operation, it offered a glimpse into the future of transportation.

Unfortunately, despite its groundbreaking features and positive reception from early adopters, the GM EV1 faced numerous challenges that ultimately led to its discontinuation. Production ceased in 1999, leaving behind a legacy as one of the first modern electric vehicles. While it may no longer be available for purchase today, the impact of GM EV1 cannot be overstated. It paved the way for subsequent generations of electric cars and inspired other manufacturers to explore alternative fuel options. The National Museum of American History in Washington DC houses a GM EV1. Symbolic, isn’t it?
