With another pair of moto wins, 2023 AMA Pro Motocross National Champion Jett Lawrence continues his unbeaten streak in his rookie year in the 450MX class. Aaron Plessinger was the overall runner-up with a 4-3 tally at Budds Creek Motocross Park—his second podium of the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship Series. Jason Anderson returned to the overall podium on the strength of a 2-5 day—his second overall podium in the last three races.
It was a bit more difficult for Lawrence than usual. In the first moto, Lawrence finished the first lap (of 17) in P6. On lap 2, Lawrence passed Phil Nicoletti, followed by Anderson (lap 3) and Garrett Marchbanks (lap 4). Lawrence broke into the podium on lap 7 with a pass of Justin Barcia, and a lap later, Lawrence passed Adam Cianciarulo (who led the first three laps) and Aaron Plessinger (who led the next four laps) and then cruised to the moto 1 win. In moto 2, Lawrence grabbed a holeshot and led the entire race, with Chase Sexton putting in a late charge to finish within one second of Lawrence. Sexton fell on lap 6 while pressuring Lawrence.
Sexton finished the day in P4 overall, having finished in P9 in the first moto after a poor start that left Sexton in P22 after the first lap. Justin Barcia’s 5-4 day was enough to give him a top-five overall in his second race after returning from a Supercross injury.
The series concludes on Saturday at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Check out our 2023 Pro Motocross Television Schedule for viewing information. The inaugural three-race 2023 SuperMotocross World Championship series begins on September 9 at zMAX Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
