Introduced in late 2022, the Seal emerged as BYD’s latest addition to its fleet of electric vehicles, adding a new layer of choice for environmentally conscious drivers. This novel offering showcases the capabilities of BYD’s e-platform 3.0, a framework employed by other models such as the Han EV and Dolphin, enhancing the overall performance and efficiency of electric vehicles. Capitalizing on technological advancements, BYD extends the realm of possibility in electric propulsion systems.
Two distinct versions of the Seal appeal to a wide variety of driving preferences. Enthusiasts opting for the rear-wheel-drive variant can expect an output of 308 horsepower, while those favoring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive option enjoy a higher power level at 523 horsepower. This diversity in powertrain options caters to a diverse customer base, reflecting BYD’s commitment to offering solutions tailored to individual needs.
One of the most distinguishing aspects of the Seal is its robust 82kWh battery pack. This energy storage system enables the rear-wheel-drive model to traverse up to 354 miles on a single charge, and the all-wheel-drive variant isn’t far behind, with a respectable range of up to 323 miles. This impressive range puts the Seal on par with many competitors in the electric vehicle market, offering drivers more freedom and flexibility.
Aesthetically, the Seal strikes an intriguing balance between elegance and modernity. Its design showcases a sleek profile with a sloping roofline and a wide grille, lending a contemporary yet timeless appeal. This design language reflects the evolution of BYD’s electric vehicle portfolio and hints at what future models may entail.
The stylishness of the exterior is carried over into the interior of the Seal as well. High-quality materials are used throughout, resulting in an upscale feel. The cabin also features a suite of digital technology, including a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that serves as the car’s central hub, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that provides drivers with key information at a glance.
Despite its advanced features and stylish design, the Seal maintains a competitive price point. The base model starts at roughly $35,000, with the all-wheel-drive variant priced at around $40,000. This cost-conscious approach sets BYD apart in a segment often known for higher-priced models.
