3 wheel bicycles are great options if you are no longer comfortable riding on a two wheel bike. Three wheel bicycles have a wide wheel base that keeps the rider balanced and makes it easy to stay upright and rolling. Riding an adult tricycle is different than a two wheel bicycle, the way riders shift their weight and turn the handlebars is very different on an adult trike than on a two wheel bicycle. There is a myth that tricycles for adults are easy to tip. While it’s true a three wheel bicycle could tip over just the same way a two wheel bicycle could tip over, if ridden properly a three wheel bike will stayed balanced. To ensure your 3 wheel bicycle won’t tip you have to follow a few basic principals for riding an adult tricycle. Take turns slow, shift your weight the opposite direction as a turn, and make sure you turn the handlebars as much as you want to turn on the tricycle. Leaning on a three wheel bicycle won’t do anything, that’s why I said shift your weight, not lean. They are two different actions, leaning doesn’t necessarily mean you are shifting your weight. You can also shift your weight with out leaning. Three wheels bicycles require their own unique strategy of riding and if you follow that your adult tricycle will stay balanced on the ground.
