The electric vehicle (EV) age has shifted the status quo in the automotive industry. Brands that have built their reputations around internal combustion engines (ICE) have suddenly been caught off guard by batteries and electric motors. Basically, whatever lead everyone had for the past 100 years with the ICE is going to be erased once the world has said no to cars powered by fossil fuels. Hyundai, however, is one of those brands that were able to rethink how to build a car that’s centered around batteries. That innovative mindset when it comes to making EVs from scratch by South Korea’s biggest automaker is front and center in the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5–arguably one of the best cars we’ve reviewed this year.
