Based in Saint-Brès, France, EM (Electric Motion) is a leader in the world of electric trials bikes. Although electric dirt bikes have had difficulty penetrating that market for various reasons, electric power appeals to many trials riders, as it is rich in torque, and trials riders generally don’t need a long range for a day’s riding. The 2025 EM Epure Factor-e is a significant update to the brand’s offering, so let’s check it out.
- The 2025 EM Epure Factor-e is available with two different batteries. The 2.5 has a 2500-watt-hour battery that puts out 21 horsepower and has a range of 31 miles. The 1.8 gets an 1800-watt-hour battery, which is good for 24 miles and 15 horsepower. However, both versions put out a mind-bending 1,032 ft-lbs of torque at their peak. Also, both batteries have a swappable lithium-ion design that puts out 50.4 volts. The 2.5 battery takes 3.25 hours to charge, 45 minutes longer than the 1.8.
- The batteries for the 1.8 and 2.5 are all-new. The swap system has been improved, and there’s a new charging plug. The batteries have new lithium-ion technology, along with software designed to improve performance, longevity, and safety. The connectors are waterproof and use a printed circuit board (PCB) and busbar It’s all wrapped up in a new casing.
- The new motor gets a four-speed transmission—rare on electric-powered motorcycles. The air-cooled motor has 40 percent more flywheel effect than previous models, giving it more of a feel of a trials bike powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). 1st gear is intended for indoor-style trials, which include large steps. 2nd gear is set up to be the go-to ratio for outdoor trials. 3rd gear is for faster sections and tighter portions of the look. 4th gear is a way to go fast on the loop while consuming less battery power. A three-disc clutch with a diaphragm disc-style spring modulates the power delivery.
- The motor gets a new controller. Controllers are essential to maximizing the usability of electric power on motorcycles. The new controller has a new processor and software. While there are still three preset maps, they have been updated to reflect the other changes in the Epure Factor-e. The EM Connect app allows wireless personalization of the power delivery via your smartphone. There is also a TFT dash on the Epure Factor-e 2.5 and 1.8.
- EM has worked to reduce the weight of the two trials bikes. The motor weighs 11 pounds, while the rest of the propulsion unit is nearly seven pounds lighter than last year. The 2025 EM Epure Factor-e 2.5 weighs 165 pounds, while the 1.8 version tips the scales at 161 pounds. The 1.8 is the lightest trials bike EM has offered.
- There’s a new frame, and it is made of 15CDV6 alloy steel. Yes, we had to look up 15CDV6. According to Dynamic Metals in Bedfordshire, UK, it’s a low-carbon alloy steel that is durable and easily welded. It doesn’t need heat treatment after welds, so it simplifies manufacturing.
- A new Tech shock greets riders. The rebound-damping and spring-preload adjustable shock is developed by former FIM World Trials Champion Marc Colomer. It’s attached to a new swingarm designed to hold up under the extreme torque produced by the electric motor.
- EMs are imported into the United States by Electric Motion USA and distributed by CPD. Other boutique brands under the CPD umbrella include AJP, Reiju, and SWM.
- The 2025 EM Epure Factor-e 2.5 has a list price of $11,699, and the 1.8 has a price tag of $10,999. These prices are competitive with the premium gasoline-powered trials bikes from Vertigo.
