Giant Loop MoJavi Saddlebag Review [Taking Things Lightly]

The Giant Loop MoJavi saddlebag is a light and rugged way to carry your must-haves and small extras tight to the motorcycle and safe from the elements. Each side of the throw-over unit with reinforced mounting provides six liters of waterproof open-space storage in bags that measure 16-by-7-by-4 inches. Weighing just the pounds empty, the $310 MoJavi is exactly the storage I was seeking for day rides. The MoJavi comes in gray or black.

Giant Loop MoJavi Saddlebag Review: Cargo carrier

The Ultimate Motorcycling Yamaha Ténéré 700 Project Bike has been loaded down with the best in class soft and hard luggage and accessories over the last 2.5 years and ballooned to a whopping 590 pounds. That is 130 pounds over the generally accepted stock weight of the Ténéré 700.

That much extra weight is not only hard to pick up after an incidental tipover, but also hard to push around in the garage. I removed the OEM pannier racks, and aftermarket tail rack with a locking top case. My cavernous hard and soft panniers are on the shelf for now as I get used to the functionality of rack-free storage.

Giant Loop MoJavi Saddlebag Review: For Sale

The Giant Loop MoJavi package includes the saddlebag assembly, one polyurethane stretch Pronghorn Strap, two fender hooks, and a heat shield to keep the MoJavi saddlebags a safe distance from the exhaust. The Pronghorn Strap loops just behind the latch under the Ténéré 700 pillion seat, so I didn’t need the fender hooks. The extra-long side straps easily loop and secure to the passenger peg bases for a solid three-point mounting.

The notable features of the latest version of the Giant Loop MoJavi saddlebags are the waterproof roll-top closure, the sewn-on double-sided Velcro strap keepers, the adjustable strap and buckle lashing to attach other storage components to the sides of the MoJavi bags, and MOLLE webbing on the back to secure a Giant Loop Armadillo Bag drinking bladder, Giant Loop Cactus canteen, or additional storage.

I know I carry too much, but no one ever complained when I pulled out an obscure repair part that helped them get out of their jam. I bring metal repair putty, a tow strap, a jumper battery, a plug-in air compressor, more tools than my bike requires, and more—and it all takes up space. I keep the rarely used stuff in my crash bar bags.

Giant Loop MoJavi Saddlebag Review: Motorcycle Touring Essentials

For day rides—dawn to sunset—I like to have accessible storage. I want to shed my heated jacket and gloves around noon and have space to carry a trail lunch, snacks, and a couple of power drinks. I didn’t have to think about minimizing or organizing with half- or full-size panniers. But, I do now, if I want a lighter, more manageable adventure bike.

The Giant Loop MoJavi saddlebag, built with its Bomb Shell construction, is my new way to pack for a day. Adding a Giant Loop Rogue dry bag allows me to carry additional clothes and my teddy bear, and still be minimal for one or two nights on the road. My days of going out for an all-day off-road ride with a backpack for extra storage is ancient history. The Giant Loop MoJavi saddlebag keeps the weight off my shoulders, behind me, low, and tight against the Ultimate Motorcycling Yamaha Ténéré 700 Project Bike.
