Arriving a year after the debut of the standard BMW R 1300 GS, the new 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure makes some big waves with various new optional technological advances, including a fully automatic transmission, adaptive ride height, and active cruise control. We dove deep into the standard BMW R 1300 GS when it came out, so we won’t repeat ourselves here. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: For Sale

  1. 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure purchasers choose three transmission experiences. They can go with a fully manual six-speed transmission with a hydraulically actuated slipper clutch. The next step is to add a quickshifter. The big leap is to the Automated Shift Assistant.

  1. The Automated Shift Assistant eliminates the clutch lever. The clutch is fully automatic, using a computer-controlled electro-mechanical hydraulic actuator to precisely engage the clutch, including slip when needed. The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) collaborates with the ECU to make it all work.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: ADV Motorcycle

  1. The rider can shift the transmission manually or automatically by the TCU. The manual mode lets the rider select the gear ratio by foot, though it will shift down automatically to prevent stalling. In the automatic mode, the Automated Shift Assistant makes gear-change decisions based on engine speed, throttle position, ride mode selected, and lean angle. Note that the gear shifter is there to send a message to the TCU—it is no longer mechanically connected to the transmission.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: Boxer motor

  1. While the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has the same motor as the standard model, the Adventure powerplant is tuned differently. The BMW ShiftCam has different cam timing.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: Ride Modes

  1. The motor is outfitted with electronics that have four standard ride modes, along with the optional Riding Modes Pro package, which has three additional modes. Stock, you get Rain, Road, Eco, and Enduro. The optional modes are Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, and Enduro Pro. The Dynamic modes are rider-adjustable. Enduro is for off-road riding with street tires, while Enduro Pro is programmed for use with tires such as the Metzeler Karoo 4. The other mode names are self-explanatory. Interestingly, you can’t scroll through all seven modes on the TFT dash. You must pick four, though you can change which four at any time. Electronic rider aids include cornering-aware traction control, engine compression braking, and ABS, as well as hill start control.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: sophisticated suspension

  1. The 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has semi-active suspension as an option, along with longer suspension travel. The Adventure has an additional 0.8 inches of wheel travel at each end. While the rake remains the same, the trail is 4.7 inches (up 0.3 inches), and the wheelbase is extended by 0.6 inches to 60.4 inches. The semi-active suspension also adjusts the spring rate on the fly.

2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure First Look: Ride height adjustment

  1. Adaptive ride height comes to the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure as an option. The Adventure has two standard set heights, depending on how you install the seat—34.3 and 35.0 inches. The bike drops 1.2 inches at low speeds and stops to make the bike easier to handle. It takes about 1.5 seconds to lower and three seconds to raise. BMW also offers Vehicle Height Control, which decreases the seat height by another 0.8 inches.

  1. The optional adaptive cruise control keeps your speed steady, and applies the brakes to avoid collisions. It’s part of the Optional Riding Assistant that includes Front Collision Warning and Lane Change Warning.

  1. The aluminum fuel tank holds 7.9 gallons of high test. There are mounting points on the massive tank for mounting accessories.
  1. A smartphone charging compartment is standard. It has a USB power port and a 12-volt socket. Emergency Call is standard, and will contact the person of your choice should you be involved in an accident. Tire pressure monitoring, heated grips, and keyless ride are standard, as is the 6.5-inch TFT dash and its sophisticated rider interface.

  1. BMW loves its Packages, and offers two for the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure:

  • Aluminum top case mount.
  • Chrome-plated headers.
  • Electrically adjustable windshield.

  1. There are four variants of the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure. The variants—Basic, Style Triple Black, Style GS Trophy, Option 719 Karakorum—feature significantly different finishes, along with some technical differences to enhance sport riding, or touring, off-road protection.

  1. You’ll have to be patient, as the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure won’t hit dealer showroom floors until the fourth quarter of 2024. No prices have been set.
