The second half of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship Series gets underway with the Spring Creek National at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota. The battle for the championship rages on, so let’s get the 2024 Spring Creek Motocross fantasy picks and tips going before the Saturday gate drop.
- Chase Sexton continues to establish himself as the favorite. With another 1-1 performance, Sexton makes it difficult to pick anyone else to win the 2024 Spring Creek National. Expect his three-moto win streak to be extended.
- Hunter Lawrence remains Sexton’s closest challenger. Lawrence led the first moto at last week’s RedBud National until a hard crash dropped him to P4 at the finish. Lawrence took a whack to the head, which he says limited his second moto performance. It’s anyone’s guess how Lawrence is doing, though he won’t be racing if he hasn’t passed the concussion protocol. Unless you think Lawrence will have lingering effects from the fall, he’s a strong P2 pick for Spring Creek.
- Aaron Plessinger and Justin Cooper will battle for the final Spring Creek National podium position. Plessinger rolls into Spring Creek MX on a 4-4-2 moto finish run, with Cooper going 6-3-6 over the same period. That points to a clear Plessinger advantage. So, go with Plessinger for P3 and Cooper in P4.
- Jason Anderson makes a strong top-five case for himself. Anderson finally put together a consistent performance at RedBud, going 5-3 for P4 overall. Cooper still holds an edge over Anderson with more top-five finishes (5 to 2) and podiums (1 to 0). With that in mind, I have Anderson rounding out the top five.
- Dylan Ferrandis is the only other rider who might crack the top five overall. However, keep in mind that although Ferrandis has two overall top-five finishes, he has never finished higher than P5 in a moto, and he has done that just three times in 12 tries. Still, if you want to take a chance to try to make up points, Ferrandis in P5 isn’t a bad play.
- The Wild Card is P13, which is virtually unpredictable. Riders who have a P13 moto finish this year include Harri Kullas (twice), Marshal Weltin (twice), Christian Craig (twice), Freddie Norén, Romaine Pape, Derek Kelley, Cullin Park, Gert Krestinov, and Shane McElrath. P13 overall finishes are Marshal Weltin (Thunder Valley and High Point), Broc Tickle (RedBud), Garrett Marchbanks (Southwick), Harri Kullas (Hangtown), and Cullin Park (Fox Raceway). With that in mind, Weltin, with two P13 moto finishes and two P13 overalls, is my Wild Card choice. Good luck.
