The highly successful Yamaha YZ250FX cross-country racing gets a significant overhaul this year. Most of the changes to the 2025 Yamaha YZ250FX revolve around the chassis and electronics, so let’s see what’s going on with the popular off-road racer.

  1. The twin-spar aluminum frame is all-new for the YZ250FX. It is based on the chassis of the YZ250F motocrosser, but the YZ250FX gets its own motor mounts and subframe. The FX is two pounds lighter than last year.

  1. Geometry is tightened up a bit on the 2025 Yamaha YZ250FX. Compared to last year, it has a slightly steeper rake (tucked in 0.2 degrees), and the wheelbase is 0.4-inch shorter.

  1. The fully adjustable KYB suspension is reworked to match the new frame. There are the same excellent units that have made the YZ250FX famous. The fork gets tool-free compression damping adjustment for 2025. Suspension travel is shortened a bit—down 0.4 inches in the rear and 0.5 inches up front—for easier riding in technical sections. The seat height is unchanged, however, at 37.6 inches.

  1. The ergonomics of the 2025 Yamaha YZ250FX are flatter and narrower, with new plastic. This is intended to increase rider maneuverability on the bike, and make it easier to touch the ground. There’s also more space between the footpegs and the seat.

  1. The wireless Yamaha Power Tuner App is updated. A new GUI makes it easier for riders to adjust the power delivery to their liking. A slide bar interface is used for adjustments. Additionally, the app gives suspension setup tips.

  1. There are four levels of traction control. The traction control levels are set through the Power Tuner app, so you can’t switch between them on the fly.

  1. The 2025 Yamaha YZ250FX gets a new switchgear for changing engine maps. You can choose two maps while riding via a handlebar-mounted button.

  1. The engine also gets an intake path update. According to Yamaha insiders, this “boosts mid- to high-rpm engine performance.” The ECU has new settings to enhance the benefit of the new intake setup.

  1. The 2025 Yamaha YZ250FX runs $100 more than last year. The list price is now $9099, and the bike is available only in Team Yamaha Blue. You’ll have to wait until October to see one on a dealership floor.
