Just as Royal Enfield utilized its 649cc parallel-twin and 350cc single-cylinder powerplants in various models, the Indian company has already found a second home for its liquid-cooled DOHC 450cc Sherpa motor that debuted in the Himalayan adventure/dual-sport bike we tested last year. The 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 will be available in much of the world soon, though we won’t see the new roadster in the United States until 2025. That, of course, isn’t going to stop us from taking a first look at the motorcycle, which is developed in India and England.
- The 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is powered by the same motor used in the Himalayan, and shares the same tune. That means you get 39 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 30 ft-lbs of torque at 5500 rpm. As a Royal Enfield insider explained to us, the DOHC configuration was chosen as an efficient way to reduce emissions rather than a path to high performance. The bore and stroke reflect that, as the mill is barely oversquare. The Sherpa motor has two power modes—Performance and Eco.
- The six-speed transmission is mated to a slip-and-assist clutch. The traditional wet multiplate clutch is cable actuated.
- Despite a nod to scrambler styling, the 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is a road-going motorcycle. Still, there are mixed messages. Those are 17-inch wheels at both ends, though they are shod with adventure-ready Ceat Gripp XL tires rather than pure street tires.
- Showa supplies the suspension, and wheel travel is generous for a street bike. The non-adjustable 43mm fork has 5.5 inches of travel with gaiter-protected tubes, and the linkage-assisted, laid-down shock allows the rear wheel to move in a 5.9-inch sweep.
- Despite the longish wheel travel, the seat on the 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has a remarkably low height of 30.7 inches.
- Royal Enfield plays it close to the vest with chassis dimensions. As usual, we don’t get rake and trail numbers. However, the wheelbase is a generous 56.7 inches—over two inches longer than its natural competitor, the new Triumph Street 400. The Guerrilla 450 is also on the hefty side, hitting 405 pounds—30 pounds more than the Triumph Street 400.
- Braking is provided by ByBre. ByBre is a subsidiary of Brembo and its calipers are designed for lightweight motorcycles and scooters. The simple two-piston front caliper works on a 310mm disc, while the rear single-piston caliper grasps a large 270mm disc. Two-channel ABS is standard.
- The round dash is a high-tech, multi-purpose TFT display. It connects with your smartphone via WiFi and has two lighting options—daylight and after-dark. If you spring for a subscription, the Guerrilla 450 dash becomes a Google Maps-informed GPS unit and offers turn-by-turn navigation. For old-schoolers, there’s an analog-style dash with an LCD inset available.
- As a roadster, the 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 combines modern and retro styling. The tank, seat, fenders, and headlight all have a classic feel, while the single-shock, inverted fork, and alloy wheels bring modernity.
- Royal Enfield loves to offer numerous paint options, and the 2024 Guerrilla 450 is no exception. Royal Enfield breaks up the paint jobs into three categories—Analogue, Flash, and Dash. The single-color Smoke Silver in the Analogue range is the standard choice, with the pair of two-color Flash colorways adding £200 to the price. The 2024 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has a base price in the UK of £4850.
- The target date and price for the United States debut of the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 has not been set. We’re just now getting the Himalayan for $5799, so expect to be patient until Spring 2025. Also, Royal Enfield is hinting that there will be a third model with the Sherpa motor, and we may see the mystery bike in the US before the Guerrilla 450.
