Ironman National winner Chase Sexton.

Chase Sexton clinched his first AMA Pro Motocross 450MX National Championship with a convincing win in the first moto at the 2024 Ironman National at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Hunter Lawrence grabbed the moto 1 holeshot, but could not withstand the onslaught from Aaron Plessinger and Sexton. Plessinger took the lead on lap 2 (of 16), and Sexton passed Lawrence for P2 the following lap. Sexton moved into the lead on lap 5 and held it to the end of the moto, beating Plessinger by nearly five seconds and ending the battle for the title.

Sexton did not relax in the second moto, as he led every lap and finished with a 26-second cushion over runner-up Plessinger. Eli Tomac, who took P4 in the first moto, moved up to P3 for moto 2, giving Tomac the final overall podium start.

Lawrence’s fast-fading P6 moto 2 finish dropped him to P4 for the day, though Lawrence retained P2 in the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series final standings. Plessinger wrapped up P3 for the year with his 202 performance. Nursing a sore shoulder, Justin Cooper went 6-4, holding onto P5 for the day and P4 for the year. Jason Anderson’s 5-5 day gave him P6 overall and he ends the season in P5 in the final standings.

Sexton finishes the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship point standings in P1, earning him 25 points to start the SMX three-round playoffs. Lawrence is the SMX #2 seed, with 23 points awarded. Anderson is P3, followed by Plessinger, Cooper, and 2024 AMA Supercross Champion Jett Lawrence, in that order.
