The long-anticipated Triumph 450-class motocross bike is here. Developed with input from seven-time 450MX and five-time 450SX Champion Ricky Carmichael, the bike debuts as the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC. Following on the heels of some successful rides by Jalek Swoll and Joey Savatgy this year on the TF 250-X, the 450 takes Triumph into the premier class. Let’s see what the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC is all about.
- We will let Triumph Motorcycles Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent have the first word and set the expectations table: “At the end of 2023, Triumph revealed the long-awaited TF 250-X, the first in an all-new range of off-road motorcycles. We now have a brand new 450cc competition motocross powertrain, which Ricky Carmichael, who is without doubt the very best in the business, has worked with us to develop. The TF 450-RC Edition offers a balance of power, precision, and durability that sets a new standard in the 450cc motocross class. It seems only right that the first edition should have Ricky’s name on it.”
- The combustion process starts via a Twin Air filter in a high-volume airbox. It is accessible without tools for quick swaps at the track.
- A Dell’Orto throttle body mixes the fuel and air for delivery to the motor.
- Athena provides the engine management system. The system is tunable using the MX Tune Pro smartphone app—Wi-Fi connectivity is optional. Traction control and launch control are adjustable, along with preset power maps. Carmichael has included his personal power map, if you feel up to it, or you can craft your own power delivery map.
- The intake ports for the four-valve SOHC head are machined. The rockers for the Del West titanium valves are DLC-coated for improved performance and reliability.
- At 63.4mm forged-aluminum König piston slides up and down a 95mm stroke.
- The hydroformed stainless steel exhaust is fitted with an integrated resonator. Triumph offers a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system as an accessory for the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC, complete with its own engine map. The Akrapovič system is designed to increase high-rpm performance by reducing backpressure.
- The power produced is run through a five-speed transmission. A quickshifter allows clutchless upshifts under full (or less) throttle from 2nd gear to 5th. The wet multiplate clutch uses a disc-style spring and is hydraulically actuated via Brembo master and slave cylinders. A Triumph Racing Hinson Racing clutch cover is part of the package.
- The spine/twin-cradle frame is made of aluminum and TIG-welded by hand. Triumph claims an ideal mixture of longitudinal, lateral, and torsional stiffness to offer an optimum balance of stability and agility for the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC.
- KYB provides the fully adjustable suspension. The inverted 48mm fork has KYB’s Air-Oil Separation (AOS) technology for smoother, more consistent action by reducing bubbles in the oil. The shock is a piggyback design and is assisted by a linkage system. Also, an XTrig Holeshot Device is fitted to the KYB AOS fork.
- Aluminum triple clamps grasp the fork legs. Mounted to the top triple clamp is an ODI RC4 Signature tapered 2014-T6 alloy handlebar. ODI half-waffle grips are installed. Switchgear for the electronics is mounted next to the clutch perch, with a start button and kill button at the right grip on the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC.
- The wheels use components from Brembo, D.I.D, Dunlop, and Galfer. The discs are from Galfer, and the calipers are Brembo units. The D.I.D DirtStar rims are shod with the latest Dunlop Geomax MX34 rubber.
- The list price of the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC is $10,995. You won’t be starting the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross Championship Series on the bike, as it won’t hit selected Triumph dealer showrooms until February. There is one colorway available—Triumph Performance Yellow, though it’s dominated by black and white plastic.
