If your motorcycle riding takes you around town or to work and back, you are probably more comfortable in a riding shoe than a full-on motorcycle boot—no pressing need for shin plates, toe sliders, or heavy-duty hook-and-loop closures. Instead, go in supreme comfort, style, and CE-compliant safety in the Rev’it Portland Ladies riding shoes, which we will call “boots” because, despite marketing-speak, these are boots.
Starting with the traditional lugged sole and lace-up work boot profile, the Rev’It Portland boots refine the look with stylish detailing, insole comfort, and safety features. They are as comfortable and functional off the pegs as they are on, and have been logging extra miles on days when I haven’t even donned a helmet.
Right out of the box the Rev’It Portland boots are exceptionally comfortable—no need to break them in. Credit the female-specific cut of the boot for the flattering fit, with lines that flow smartly without being constraining. While not quite a wide toe-box design, the Portland boots have plenty of room for my particularly tender feet (read: bunions), without being a clunky combat boot.
Perhaps this fine-looking boot should have been named the Bandera instead of the Portland, as vegans will not approve of the cowhide construction. However, the beautiful soft leather apropos of premium-priced footwear breathes nicely and is durable. The boot’s interior oozes comfort; its removable (and washable) insole provides a wonderful cushion under my feet, and the antimicrobial, breathable liner cocoons my ankles and shin. Although the Rev’It Portland boots are not waterproof, the gusseted tongue will help keep debris out.
While comfort and style are highly appreciated, it’s important to know my feet will be protected if things go wrong. The Rev’It Portland boots carry a CE Level 2 rating for impact protection and abrasion. This is achieved through heat-molded plastic seamlessly reinforcing the heel and toe of the boot, while Rev’it’s proprietary Seesoft ankle caps guard both sides of your ankles. My feet feel nicely secure with the laces snugged tight. There is also a discreet reflector on the back of the heel of the boot for after-hours visibility.
The lugged sole keeps the Portland boots securely on the footpegs for slip-free footing when I touch down at a stop. The shank is stiff enough to protect my arches when bumping over rough urban roads and contributes to the overall substantial feel of the boots. The Rev’It Portland boots tread unexpectedly softly, leaving no scuff marks on my epoxy kitchen floor—extra points for that.
My favorite detail on the Rev’It Portland boots is the unique pinch-stitching on the vamp used to create protection from the shift lever. Instead of the usual extra leather patch or plastic guard, this little bit of goodness had me from the moment I noticed it. In practice, though, it’s not as effective as intended—my left boot is getting a bit scuffed from the lever. But I still love it.
The Rev’It Portland Ladies Riding Shoes are my current go-to boot for urban riding and commuting duties. They are a legit functional and protective choice that masquerades as a low-key fashion statement, and they’ve gotten more than their fair share of compliments from non-riding friends.
