You may have read about updates to Triumph’s Speed Twin 1200 range is growing. The historic British marque has reconfigured its base model Speed Twin 1200, and added a zestier high-performance model in the form of the 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS.
In a nutshell, the RS-badged variant is equipped with both the sporting fixings and sporting intent that we’ve come to associate with any Triumph featuring said branding. Priced at $15,995, the 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS features upgrades such as premium Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes, and a more aggressive riding position to help differentiate it from the already sporty retro base bike.
- A dyno bump comes to the High Power 1197cc parallel-twin engine. The p-twin, with Triumph’s High Power tuning, has served several Modern Classic variants well for the past decade and has received numerous updates since its introduction. Engineers achieved Euro 5+ emissions standards this year while also improving performance by updating the camshaft, ignition timing, and fuel tuning, adding an additional five horsepower over the prior iteration. That brings claimed numbers up to 104 horsepower at 7750 rpm, while 83 ft-lbs of torque return at a street-friendly 4250 rpm.
- A modern dash is fitted to these Modern Classics, with the RS getting something extra. Ditching the traditional twin clocks is a step toward contemporary styling choices and coincides with some advancements in electronics for the Speed Twin platform. The 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS features three riding modes—Road, Rain, and an RS-exclusive Sport mode. While riding modes aren’t new for the Speed Twin platform, IMU-assisted traction control and ABS are.
- A quickshifter is gifted to the RS in the name of The factory bi-directional quickshifter is the first added to a Modern Classic model. As it shares a powerplant with the base model and no changes are listed in the announcement literature, we anticipate the six-speed transmission and slip-and-assist clutch will work as effectively as before.
- RS ergonomics take on the sportier side of life. Edging the Speed Twin RS closer to where the departing Thruxton family of bikes will leave off is a more aggressive riding position than the standard Speed Twin. To that end, the handlebars are mounted 0.6 inches lower and nudged 0.4 further forward, pulling the rider closer to the front end. That’s a significant difference supported by rearsets mounted 0.3 inches higher and a healthy 1.6 inches backward, which cants the entire riding position forward to create clear identities between each Speed Twin 1200 model. As always, the accessory catalog is fleshed out nicely, but café racer clip-ons are available to recreate a Thruxton, should you choose that path.
- Öhlins suspension is standard on the up-spec RS model. A notable upgrade over the base model is the fully adjustable 43mm inverted fork and fully adjustable shocks. That satisfies spec-sheet bragging rights, yet those upgrades also push the geometry in a sporting direction due to the additional wheel travel in the rear, raising the rear ride height and putting more weight on the nose. The result should be additional steering eagerness over the base bike.
- Top-shelf Brembo Stylema front calipers are standard on the 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS. Meanwhile, the standard bike uses Triumph-branded four-piston calipers.
- Styling tweaks come to the 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 platform. Much is shared between the base model Speed Twin 1200 and the sportier RS, including appearance. That narrative starts with the engine cases that are slimmed down, and the same can be said about the new brushed-aluminum throttle body covers. In addition, the 3.8-gallon fuel tank features a new profile, larger knee cutouts, and fork indentations. Rounding out the looks department is an updated LED headlight with a new lighting signature and an updated brushed aluminum bezel to match other elements.
- New cast-aluminum wheels are part of the 2025 lineup update. While not a huge change, “turbine style” seven-spoke wheels are provided on each Speed Twin 1200. Underscoring the different intentions of each model are the tires assigned, which see the athletic RS equipped with Metzeler Racetec RR K3 rubber that’s more than capable of running track days. Meanwhile, the base bike uses more mileage-conscious Metzeler Sportec M9 RR tires.
- The 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS has a $15,995 MSRP and is available in two color choices. A duo of paint options is exclusive to the RS—pick Baja Orange or Sapphire Black.
