The long-promised street-legal Stark electric-dual sport is here, three years after the introduction of the Stark Varg MX motocrosser. Let’s dive into what we know about the 2025 Stark Varg EX from the Barcelona-based boutique brand.
- The photos are of the European version of the 2025 Stark Varg EX. The street-legal American version will have turn signals, mirrors, and other equipment mandated by the DOT. Stark tells us the Varg EX will have flexible turn indicators with durability ensured by employing optical silicone; Stark has a patent pending for the design. The headlight is claimed to put out 4,000 lumens.
- Range is always the big question mark regarding electric motorcycles. Until we ride one, we won’t really know. Stark is understandably vague about range, as it is highly dependent upon various factors—power setting, rider aggressiveness, speed, terrain, elevation change, and temperature, among them. Stark says 1.3 to 6 hours of riding—that’s a broad claim. Stark claims the Varg EX’s battery’s range is 20 percent longer than the Varg MX.
- Charging takes time, and it helps to have a 240-volt source handy. With 240 volts on tap, the 2025 Stark Varg EX takes two hours to charge—a long weight. If you only have a 120-volt charger, you’re looking at 3.5 hours, which isn’t practical on a ride.
- While the Stark Varg EX has juice in the 7.2-kilowatt-hour honeycomb magnesium battery, the 360-volt permanent magnet AC (PMAC) motor can deliver mind-warping power. According to insiders at Stark, the Varg EX gets you a maximum of 764 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheel. For comparison, the Triumph Rocket 3’s 2458cc triple puts out “just” 163 ft-lbs of torque. The Standard version of the Varg EX tops out a 60 horsepower, while the Alpha model ups that to 80 horsepower for an additional $1000.
- There are five preset power modes, and everything is adjustable from the handlebar. You can set the power delivery, motor braking, and power regeneration curve to your liking. Our source at Stark tells us the Varg EX can have its motor setup up to resemble the “nimbleness of a 125cc two-stroke or the brute power of a 450cc four-stroke.” Power is sent to the aluminum rear sprocket via an RK MXU UW-ring Gold 520 chain protected by a beefy chain guide.
- There’s no gearbox. It’s a twist-and-go one-speed, and there’s no clutch.
- The 2025 Stark Varg EX weighs 264 pounds, though that likely doesn’t include the accouterments required for US street legality. The Varg EX has a chromoly frame and carbon fiber subframe. Being electric, the weight does not lessen as the bike goes through its energy supply.
- KYB supplies the suspension. The fork is an inverted 48mm closed-cartridge model, with fully adjustable damping. The shock gets help from linkage and is fully adjustable, including high- and low-speed compression damping. Wheel travel is just under a foot at each end.
- There will be five tire options for the 2025 Stark Varg EX, including tube or mousse support. In the photos, we see FIM- and DOT-friendly Metzeler 6 Days Extreme rubber. The tires are mounted on aluminum rims laced with steel spokes to CNC-machined aluminum hubs.
- Brembo handles the braking. The 260mm front disc gets a two-piston caliper, while the rear 220mm disc is grasped by a single-piston unit. The rear brake can be a foot pedal or handlebar-mounted lever. The handlebar is an aluminum ProTaper Fatbar.
- The 2025 Stark Varg EX has dimensions similar to a KTM 500 EXC-F dual-sport bike. The Varg EX’s seat height is 38 inches, and there are 13.6 inches of ground clearance. The wheelbase of the Varg EX and the 500 EXC-F are about the same, though the Varg EX has just 26.1 degrees of rake, 0.8 degrees less than the KTM.
- The list price of the 2025 Stark Varg EX Standard is $12,900. That’s right in the same ballpark as the current KTM 500 EXC-F. The Varg EX absolutely piques our interest as a stealth dual-sport bike. We can’t wait to test it and find out what sort of real-life range it has, as that’s the lynchpin that any EV hangs on.
