Eli Tomac.

A race-long battle between two-time Supercross Champion Eli Tomac and defending Supercross Champion Jett Lawrence unfolded before the crowd at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, with Tomac holding Lawrence off for the victory. The win propelled Tomac to the top of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series standings after two races. Tomac leads last week’s winner, Chase Sexton, by a point. Sexton is one point clear of Ken Roczen.

Tomac and Lawrence had to move through the pack to reach the front. Lawrence was in P6 after the first of 24 laps, one position clear of Tomac. However, Tomac moved from P7 to P4 over the next two laps while Lawrence remained in P6. By lap 7, Tomac was in P3 and Lawrence behind him. Tomac got by Roczen on lap 10, with Lawrence following a lap later.

On lap 12, Tomac and Lawrence chased down Cooper Webb, who had been leading from the opening lap. In a right-hand bowl turn, Tomac and Lawrence passed Webb in quick succession, quickly building a gap over Webb. From lap 13 until the finish, Tomac held a lead of a second or two over Lawrence, with Lawrence never able to show Tomac a wheel. Tomac won by 1.5 seconds, with Webb over 17 seconds behind Lawrence.

Webb defended his podium spot from a persistent Roczen, crossing the finish line with a 1.1-second margin. Roczen was also keeping one eye behind him, as Hunter Lawrence was just 1.4 seconds back at the end.

Chase Sexton fell on the opening lap, dropping to last place. Sexton worked his way up to the top 10 by lap 10. Sexton passed Malcolm Stewart for P6 on lap 19, which was as far as he could advance. Sexton was able to close to within a second of Hunter Lawrence on the final lap.

As is often the case early in the Supercross season, the podium of round 2 was completely different from round 1. Webb is P4 in the standings, six points clear of Jett Lawrence, who is 10 points behind leader Tomac.

The series returns to Angels Stadium for Anaheim 2 on Saturday, January 25. Check our 2025 Supercross Television Schedule for viewing info for A2.
