With a name like Briton, you wonder two things about these Joe Rocket gloves: are they warm and waterproof? As it turns out, the Joe Rocket Briton gloves are both warm and waterproof. However, there is more to the gloves than that, so let’s go riding.
The exterior of the Joe Rocket Briton glove is supple leather. These gloves feel good the first time you slip them on. I wear Large gloves, and these gloves fit true to size.
The pull on the offset YKK zipper is fairly small, though the gloves allow enough dexterity to easily zip them open and closed. The wrist closure with a faux Joe Rocket-branded button uses hook-and-loop for a personalized fit.
An accordion panel on each side of the zipper gives your hand and wrist plenty of freedom of movement. The Joe Rocket Briton gloves never get in the way of operating levers or buttons. The index fingers have a conductive tip and can manipulate a touchscreen, even when wet.
In addition to the protection offered by the leather chassis, there are pads for the lower part of your fingers, though not the thumbs. Knuckle armor is there—fortunately, I haven’t needed to test its protective qualities. The palms are also lightly padded.
These long-running Joe Rocket gloves don’t have the newer CE ratings, so you must rely on Joe Rocket’s reputation when considering whether they’re up to the job. I have confidence in them and wear them frequently in the winter.
Ideally, any gloves you wear work transparently, and that’s the case with the Joe Rocket Briton gloves. They keep my hands warm on colder days thanks to the non-perforated leather and the waterproof polyester lining. When the temps go up, they get uncomfortably warm and sweaty. The waterproofing is good enough to withstand submerging for minutes, including the zipper—impressive.
The styling of the Joe Rocket Briton gloves appeals to sport and cruiser riders—classic, without being retro. The performance is top-notch, and so is the comfort. Despite frequent use, the Briton gloves have proven durable and live up to their name—definitely high-value at $65/pair.
