The Klim Enduro S4 jacket and pants are the closest I have come to wearing the perfect gear. The combo is purpose-built for exactly my gear plan, and almost as comfortable as a five-star hotel bathrobe. I am downsizing project bikes from the now-concluded Yamaha Ténéré 700 to the much lighter and less powerful Honda CRF300L Rally. This includes carrying less and wearing less, so what I do take needs to be multi-purpose and packable.

The Klim Enduro S4 jacket ($350) is made from lightweight, windproof, and waterproof stretch fabric. It has a zipped, sealed-away drawstring hood that can be used as a pillow when camping. Zippers closing the two handwarmer zipper pockets make them safe to carry my credit card, earplug case, and extra Insta360 battery.
Because the stretch fabric doesn’t breathe, there are two-way zippers in the arm pits, plus a wide lower back zippered vent for managing airflow. The lining material is smooth; the elbows and cuffs of my Klim Induction jacket never catch when I put on the S4.
The jacket can also be used as a sport shell for hikes and around the campfire, and has plenty of reflective accents to be seen at night.
The Klim Enduro S4 pants ($330) completely unzip from hip to cuff so you can put them on without having to remove your boots. The Klim designers conveniently placed quick snaps on both sides of the waist to keep them up while you are hooking up the two-way, full-leg zippers. After you zip down the legs and set the adjustable cuff, you can tighten the waist with three inches of adjustment on each side.
I don’t find my legs as sensitive to temperature and humidity as my torso, so I’m not bothered by the Enduro S4 pants’ lack of breathability. You can slide down the upper zippers a bit to get some ventilation on dry rides.
The inner legs have an abrasion-resistant covering where your legs grasp the bike. There are two elastic storage loops tucked away on the waistband that can secure the inside-out, rolled-up pants to make a camp pillow.
The morning temperatures in the Pacific Northwest have been in the high 40s, and the afternoons can reach 80; rain is a given. The wind- and water-proofing of the Enduro S4 outfit keeps me comfortable in the morning, dry in the rain, and storable for the warmer parts of the day.
If you pack away the Klim Enduro S4 jacket and pants, you’ll be caringly an extra 3.3 pounds—29 ounces for the jacket and 24 ounces for the pants.
Standing or sitting when traversing technical terrain, the full-body stretch of the material makes me forget I have two layers on. Conveniently, Klim has sized and designed the S4 overshells to match your exact jacket and pant sizes. I wear the Klim Induction jacket in Large, and 34-inch Induction ants, and the Large-size Enduro S4 jacket and the 34-inch S4 pants fit correctly over Induction gear.
With summer upon us, I want to be wearing my all-mesh Klim gear. Concurrently, I don’t want to be uncomfortably cold or get soaking wet from an afternoon thunderstorm.
