The junior partner in the KTM Adventure R firm is all-new this year. The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R gets the latest-generation, ride-by-wire 399cc DOHC motor, along with a new chassis. It’s under KTM’s Travel designation, so road performance isn’t forgotten. Let’s check it all out.
- The LC4c comes from the 390 Duke that debuted last year. The single-cylinder powerplant produced 44 horsepower at 8500 rpm, with torque peaking at 29 ft-lbs at 7000 rpm. For a thumper, it does like to rev. Bosch handles the EFI, and the short-stroke combustion chamber is fed by a 46mm throttle body. After an initial oil change at 620 miles, you can go 6200 miles between oil changes.
- There are three ride modes: Street, Off-Road, and Rain. Each adjusts the throttle response and cornering-aware traction control. Riders have the option to disable the traction control, which off-roaders will appreciate.
- The six-speed transmission offers a quickshifter as an option. The clutch features assist and slipper functions, providing a lighter touch at the lever and reducing drama during hard downshifts. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a 520 X-ring chain.
- The 390 Adventure R has a 3.7-gallon fuel tank and is estimated to consume 69 mpg. That works out to a range of over 250 miles.
- The steel trellis frame is based on the frame used by all the 390s. However, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R gets its own steering head angle, triple clamps, rigidity profile, and mounts for the rear subframe. The Adventure R’s gravity die-cast aluminum swingarm is shared with the 390 Enduro R dual-sport bike and 390 SMC R supermoto. The curb weight is 385 pounds, which is light for an ADV bike.
- WP Apex suspension is used at both ends. While the spring-preload is fixed on the open-cartridge fork, the compression and rebound damping are 30-click adjustable. The cantilevered shock has spring-preload adjustability and 20 clicks of rebound adjustment.
- With a 21-/18-inch wheelset, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R is ready for off-road travel. The tube-type Mitas Enduro Trail E07+ tires have a slight 60/40 road bias.
- ByBre calipers slow the 390 Adventure R down. The front 320mm disc is ready for high-speed pavement. The rear is a 240mm disc. Two-channel Bosch 9.3MP ABS controls skidding during braking, with an Offroad mode available that disables the rear ABS.
- An adventure fairing with a substantial windshield protects the rider from the wind blast. All lighting on the bike is LED. The handlebar is tapered aluminum, and handguards are standard.
- A five-inch TFT dash and new switchgear help the rider manage the electronics suite. You can pair your smartphone and helmet intercom to the 390 Adventure R for turn-by-turn navigation, answering phone calls, and listening to music.
- The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R has a price tag of $6999. If you want to spend more, the KTM PowerParts catalog gives you plenty of opportunities, as shown in the location photos.
