When the Suzuki V-Strom 800 platform and its 776cc parallel-twin motor debuted three years ago, we thought that signaled the end of the venerable 650 V-twin used in the SV650, V-Strom 650, and other models. It hasn’t turned out that way, as Suzuki has breathed new life into the motor, which debuted in 1999. Meet the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX.
- Despite having a “7” designation, the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX has the same basic SV650 powerplant, right down to the bore and stroke. However, Suzuki has upgraded the motor to Euro 5+ standards through a revised airbox, new downdraft throttle bodies, ride-by-wire throttle control, twin-spark heads, and a 2-into-1 exhaust with additional oxygen sensors.
- As we often see with Suzukis, it has three power modes—A (Active), B (Basic), and C (Comfort). Modes A and B differ in throttle response and traction control level, while C also tones down the torque. Traction control is also independently adjustable.
- The modes are set with the help of a 4.2-inch TFT display, which shows the usual array of information with Day and Night modes. With the Suzuki Ride Connect+ app on your smartphone, you can pair it with the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX and get navigation, trip recording, weather alerts, call notifications, and other information.
- The new 7 motor focuses on midrange power. Well before hitting the rev limiter, the V-twin puts out a peak of 72 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 47 lb-ft of torque at 6800 rpm.
- Suzuki has updated the six-speed transmission. A quickshifter is now standard, with clutchless upshift available above 2000 rpm and downshifts above 1700 rpm.
- The new motor is in a sport-touring platform. The frame has been massaged a bit to account for the forces induced by the fairing. The ergonomics of the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX sit between those of the upright V-Strom 650 and the sporty SV650. The seating is a fraction of an inch higher than the SV, thanks to additional padding. The bodywork is narrow to make it easier to touch the pavement at stops.
- The windscreen is three-position adjustable over a two-inch range. In addition to the fairing, the rider is protected from the wind by generous hand guards. Inside the fairing is an LED headlight that is cornering-aware, along with a powered USB-C port.
- Sport-touring aficionados will like the larger tank and standard rear rack on the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX. Combine the 5-gallon fuel capacity with an estimated 56 mpg, and you might get over 250 miles between gas station stops.
- Suspension is kept simple. The 41mm fork is non-adjustable, while the linkage-assisted shock has seven spring-preload settings.
- Non-adjustable ABS is standard with four-piston Tokico calipers up front and a Nissin caliper in the rear. Those are 290mm discs on the front wheel and a 240 out back.
- The new 10-spoke cast-aluminum wheels are shod with Pirelli Angel GT II tires.
- There are three colors available, including one we’ve never heard of before. Along with Glass Sparkle Black and the two-tone Pearl Brilliant White/Metallic Triton Blue, we also see Pearl Matte Greige. We had to look up “Greige.” It turns out, it’s a portmanteau of “grey” and beige”. An interior designer tells us that greige is “very popular in interior design, fashion, and automotive finishes because it’s versatile, timeless, and works as a neutral backdrop without feeling as cold as gray or as dated as some beiges.”
- We don’t know if the 2026 Suzuki SV-7GX will be joining the GSX-S1000GT+ sport-tourer in the United States this year. Europe won’t be seeing the SV-7GX on the road until summer, and prices have not been revealed.
