When most people in North America or Europe hear the name VinFast, they probably think of the Vietnamese electric car company trying to break into international markets with a lineup of electric SUVs.

What many don’t realize is that VinFast is already a giant in another corner of the EV industry: electric two-wheelers.

The company has just announced that it rolled its one millionth electric motorcycle – or more accurately, electric scooter – off the production line, a milestone that highlights just how massive the Asian e-mobility market has become.

The millionth vehicle was a red Feliz II electric scooter, produced at VinFast’s manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, according to local media. The model uses a removable battery system that can either be charged at home or swapped at dedicated battery exchange stations.

That battery swapping strategy is one of the more interesting parts of VinFast’s approach. While much of the West remains focused on plug-in charging, battery swapping has gained traction in several Asian markets where dense urban populations and apartment living can make home charging less convenient.

VinFast has spent years building out a network of charging and battery swap locations across Vietnam, and the company has also been working to bring that concept to other regional markets.

VinFast launched its first electric scooter, the Klara, in late 2018. Less than eight years later, the company has built a lineup spanning nearly 15 different model families and more than 30 variants, ranging from affordable urban commuters to larger premium scooters. Some models feature fixed batteries, while others use one or even two removable battery packs.

The numbers are impressive. VinFast says it sold more than 406,000 electric motorcycles in 2025 alone, supported by nearly 750 authorized dealerships and service centers throughout Vietnam.

The company is also investing in expanded manufacturing capacity, including a new electric motorcycle factory in central Vietnam, while growing its presence in markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Thailand, and Malaysia.

While Europe and North America continue debating the future of electric motorcycles, much of Asia has already embraced electric scooters as everyday transportation.

And with integrated charging networks, battery swapping infrastructure, and a product strategy aimed at making electric transportation affordable, VinFast is quietly becoming one of the biggest electric two-wheeler success stories that many Western consumers have barely noticed.
