This session is a discussion about the state of electric 2&3 Wheelers in Southeast Asia and highlight perspectives from the people on the ground. The ASEAN region is home to 650 million people with high rates of urbanization and motorization driving severe air pollution, traffic jams, and fossil fuel consumption. Most motorised trips in Southeast Asia are on motorized two wheelers, which remain often insufficiently integrated in urban transport. The growth of e-commerce has made motorbike deliveries indispensable. Electrifying 2&3 wheelers will help make cities more sustainable especially when properly integrated into the urban transport system.
The event took place during the Transport and Climate Change Week (TCCW) 2021, which is an annual event organized by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
