Jett Lawrence finished his championship-winning rookie season in the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship Series with double moto wins at the Ironman National. Lawrence had a perfect season, winning all 22 motos of the 11-round series. It’s the first perfect season since James Stewart accomplished the feat in 2008. Ricky Carmichael did it twice, in 2002 and 2004, though Lawrence is the first 450MX rookie to have a perfect season. Earlier in the day, Jett’s brother Hunter clinched the 250MX National Championship.
Lawrence led every lap of both motos at Ironman Raceway. Runner-up Chase Sexton, who went 2-2, did not show Lawrence a wheel in either moto. Aaron Plessinger took the final overall podium spot with a 5-3 day, besting Jason Anderson, who went 4-4. Dylan Ferrandis was on the moto-one podium, but crashed out in the second turn of the second moto.
Ferrandis was able to hold onto his runner-up spot in the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship Series, finishing 13 points clear of Plessinger. Sexton moved up to P4 in the final series standings, taking the spot from Adam Cianciarulo, who was P5 for the day, with a 6-6 showing.
The inaugural three-race 2023 SuperMotocross World Championship series gets underway on September 9 at zMAX Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. Sexton goes in as the top seed ahead of Plessinger, Lawrence, Cianciarulo, and Ferrandis, with Lawrence passing Cianciarulo in the SuperMotocross qualifying standings at the Ironman National.
