KTM is upping the off-road ante of its parallel-twin-powered ADV lineup with the new 2024 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally. Based on the 890 Adventure R, the Rally enjoyed upgraded suspension, enhanced electronics, and additional protection from the elements encountered in dirt excursions.
- The 2024 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally gets fully adjustable suspension from the WP Pro Components department. That means the Xplor Pro 7548 fork and an Xplor Pro 6748 shock. The fork uses WP’s Cone Valve system, while the shock has progressive damping rather than being assisted by linkage. The action of the suspension is tuned to encourage aggressive off-road riding, and there are 10.6 inches of wheel travel at each end.
- To handle more demanding off-road riding, the Rally gets stronger Excel rims with Mitas Enduro Trail E-07+ tires. The spoked wheels are tube-type and employ the pure off-road 21-/18-inch pairing.
- The ride-by-wire Rally comes with the Tech Pack. That means an attractive suite of standard electronic enhancements—a quickshifter, traction control, cruise control, and Rally mode.
- KTMconnect is part of the five-inch TFT dash. You can pair your smartphone via Bluetooth to the dash for KTM’s Turn-By-Turn+ navigation. Many of the Sygic-developed KTMconnect features are subscription-based, however.
- A titanium Akrapovič muffler is used to reduce weight. It’s 35 percent lighter than its counterpart of the standard R. There is no claim of increased performance, however.
- The Rally has many hard-parts upgrades over the standard R. The seat is a racing design, the footpegs are larger, there’s an aluminum rear master cylinder guard, carbon fiber guards for the tank, a larger fork guard, a Supersprox Stealth rear sprocket, and an engine protection grill. Rally-specific plastic and graphics are part of the package.
- Buyers of the new Rally can participate in the Ultimate KTM Desert Experience in Morocco. For $5400, you get a full factory-style ride on a pre through the African countryside. There are two rides in March 2024—the 3rd to the 7th, and the 7th to the 11th. KTM describes the overnight accommodations as “luxury,” and one night is spent camping in the desert. There will be 34 openings for the Experience.
- You will have to be patient regarding the 2024 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally. Pre-ordering begins on September 20, and delivery will be in early 2024. The MSRP is $21,499.
