The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE is back for 2024, and with the new year comes several significant changes. The most welcome update is the price. The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE has an MSRP that is $900 lower than last year. Let’s find out how Triumph got the off-road-focused XE price down to $15,295.
- The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE is fitted with Marzocchi suspension. Last year’s XE had a Showa fork and Öhlins shocks. However, the wheel travel remains the same—9.8 inches at each end—and the Marzocchi units have full adjustability. The front fork is still an inverted design, and the new shocks still have piggyback reservoirs. According to Triumph, the Marzocchi suspension has “more incremental adjustment.”
- There are new brakes on the XE. Last year’s Brembo M50 front calipers have been replaced by Brembo Stylema calipers, though they’re still radially mounted and grasping 320mm discs. In the rear, a single-piston Nissin caliper is used instead of the previous Brembo two-piston caliper, with the 255mm disc retained.
- Although Metzeler Tourance tires are standard spec, Michelin Anakee Wild tires are tested and approved by Triumph for use on the XE. The Anakee Wild tires are much more suited to off-road riding. The wire-spoke wheels are designed for tubeless tires, and the wheelset is an off-road-aggressive 21-/17-inch combo.
- New intake and exhaust systems have increased low-end to midrange power on the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. The vertical twin should be a tad more muscular from idle to about 6500 rpm, as both torque and horsepower are increased in that range. The top-end power is essentially unchanged, with no changes in peak output. Triumph also promises better heat management from the catalytic converter in the exhaust system, which is now a 2-into-1 design.
- The motor will continue to have six riding modes that alter the throttle response and traction control, as well as ABS. Five riding modes are preset—Sport, Road, Off-Road Pro, Off-Road, and Rain—and a sixth mode is rider-configurable. There are five cornering-aware traction control modes, if you count “off”. The other four are Sport, Road, Off-Road, and Rain.
- The left-handlebar switch gear is updated, and now backlit. There’s a dedicated riding mode button, one-button cruise control, and a five-way joystick. You can monitor your choices on the round TFT dash with side panels. There are two display choices, plus you can pick between high- or low-contrast, or have the contrast set automatically. When the display starts up, you can have your name displayed.
- The turn indicators and taillight housing are smaller this year.
- Triumph has plenty of accessories for personalization and specialization. You can add parts to make the XE more dirt-worthy, or set it up for touring. Triumph worked with Givi to create a complete luggage set for the XE, including a new tail bag. A High Dakar Screen is available to stave off the wind.
- The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 will be available in February, and you have a choice of three colors. In addition to Sapphire Black, there are two two-tone paint jobs—Baja Orange and Phantom Black, and Phantom Black and Storm Grey.
