Arlo, maker of some of our favorite home security gadgets, has jumped ahead of Black Friday with its own suite of deals on security cameras and video doorbells right now. We’ve noted the best deals of the lot on the gear we’ve tested and like. Most of these deals will expire on November 5, 2023. Security Camera Deals
For top-notch video clarity, day or night, the Arlo Pro 5S (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is tough to beat. This camera records video at up to 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution with HDR support and color night vision without needing a spotlight (though it is an option). You also get the best notifications, expansive smart home support, and person, animal, vehicle, and package detection, but you need a subscription at $5 per month for a single camera or $13 per month for unlimited cameras. The price has dipped slightly lower, but this is still a good deal.
Before the Arlo Pro 5S claimed the top spot in our Best Outdoor Security Cameras guide, this was our pick, and it is still an excellent camera. The Arlo Pro 4 provides crisp, clear footage, responds swiftly, and boasts dependable detection and our favorite notification system. The main differences with the Pro 5S are slightly better battery life and enhanced color night vision, but the Pro 4 comes close to matching it in every other respect.
If Arlo’s Pro cameras seem steep, you can save cash by shopping the Essential range. You still get up to 2K footage, color night vision, motion detection, and solid smart alerts, provided you subscribe to Arlo Secure. But this camera has a narrower 130-degree field of view, is restricted to 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi, and lacks HDR, meaning video may blow out in bright areas when the sun shines. If you need multiple cameras you can get an even bigger discount.
Whether you want to check in on pets or family throughout the day, or be alerted if anyone is in your home when they shouldn’t be, indoor security cameras can help. Ticking all our boxes with clear 1080p footage, reliable motion detection, configurable smart alerts, compact design, and a privacy shutter for when you’re home, the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera scores a place in our Best Indoor Security Cameras guide. There’s also two-way audio with decent noise-canceling, though a slight lag can sometimes make conversations tricky. The other downside is the subscription cost.
On paper, this is a straight upgrade from the indoor camera above, offering a higher 2K resolution, but we have not been able to test it yet. Beyond the resolution upgrade, it has all the same features as the original, including the privacy shutter, night vision, and a siren option.
Video Doorbell Deals
The runner-up in our Best Video Doorbells guide, the most affordable Arlo video doorbell offers an expansive 180-degree square view of your front porch, delivers swift alerts with clear notifications, and records detailed video day and night. False positives are rare, and it never misses the action. Pressing the doorbell triggers a call on your phone, which is generally more reliable than alerts when you’re away from home. On the downside, you need that subscription, and we have sometimes noticed a two- or three-second delay on the live feed.
We find wired doorbells to be more reliable than wireless models, and they can usually trigger your existing chime, but if you need a battery-powered doorbell, this is a decent pick. It matches the wired version above on features, but you need to subscribe to Arlo Secure for 30 days of cloud video history, animated previews, interactive notifications, activity zones, and detection smarts that enable it to categorize by person, package, animal, and vehicle.
Arlo’s second-generation video doorbell can be wired or wireless. It has the same 180-degree field of view, but it bumps the resolution up to 2K. We haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but you will need a strong Wi-Fi signal at your front door to reliably stream and record the higher-resolution footage. The rest of the feature list is the same as the Essential doorbells, including two-way audio, siren, motion detection, and night vision.
