Verge Motorcycles (Finland), the company known for its electric superbikes, has revealed that it has made improvements to its flagship model, the TS Ultra. The upgraded version now boasts six cameras and advanced front and rear radars with high resolution capabilities. This updated edition will replace the previous model, and customers who have already made a purchase can expect to receive these new features automatically.

In November, the company introduced its Starmatter software and intelligence platform, which consists of four key components: automatic over-the-air updates (OTA), sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and a Human-Machine-Interface (HMI). The package has now been enhanced with the latest development, Starmatter Vision. With these new features, Verge is leading the way as the first motorcycle manufacturer to offer advanced safety measures in the world of motorcycling. In addition to standard features such as traction control and ABS brakes, Verge’s bikes also boast a low center of gravity for improved handling and a safer riding experience.

“Verge is making riding even smarter and safer, for example by improving the rider’s ability to observe the environment and the functions of the bike with the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The TS Ultra’s new cameras combined with the software update announced today make it the world’s first motorcycle equipped with the sense of sight, advising the rider and acting as a ‘whisperer’ while riding,” describes Verge CTO Marko Lehtimäki.

Autonomous driving has been a widely adopted feature in the automotive industry for several years, but implementing it in motorcycles poses unique challenges and limitations. The nature of riding a two-wheeler presents safety risks that must be carefully considered. Additionally, the helmet worn by motorcyclists can impede visibility and mute the sounds of surrounding traffic. Verge believes that technology can provide a solution to these issues and aims to improve not only riding comfort but also overall safety through innovative developments. By upgrading both hardware and software, the motorcycle is able to analyze its surroundings and alert the rider of potential hazards, such as a vehicle approaching from behind or changing lanes.

Renewed display technology revolutionises the way the rider interacts with the bike

The updated version of the Verge TS Ultra boasts improved displays. The larger display on top of the tank makes it more user-friendly. The newly introduced Starmatter Dash display and user interface completely transform the way riders interact with the bike. This innovative dash simplifies managing necessary features, provides alerts for potential dangers, and shows a live feed from the rear view camera when the rider activates their turn signal.

“Verge is developing the world’s most advanced electric superbikes that focus on the riding experience. We do not want to compromise on that. Starmatter Dash provides a visual and intuitive interface, which gives the rider a clear real-time view of the bike’s features and status at a glance,” says Mark Laukkanen, VP of User Experience at Verge Motorcycles.

Renewed Verge TS Ultra and Starmatter Vision can be seen for the first time at CES in Las Vegas January 9–12, 2024.
