Chase Sexton extended his moto winning streak to seven races and his overall win streak to four rounds with a 1-1 performance at Washougal MX Park in Washington to win the 2024 Washougal National. Sexton extended his lead in the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series over Hunter Lawrence to 28 points as the season goes into its summer break. Lawrence had an off day, going 5-4. It’s Lawrence’s first time finishing a moto outside the top four this year and the first time he has not been on the overall podium.
Aaron Plessinger took P2 overall with a 2-3 day. Plessinger led the opening 13 of 16 laps of the day’s first moto before being passed by Sexton, who was in P6 after the first lap. Justin Cooper started the first moto in P2, and held the runner-up spot until he was passed by Lawrence and Sexton on lap 8. On the next lap, Lawrence fell, moving Cooper up to P3, where he finished. Jason Anderson ran in P3 for the first third of the race, but was passed by Sexton and finished in P4. Lawrence, who was in P5 after his fall, maintained the position for the rest of the first moto.
Anderson grabbed the second moto holeshot and led the first nine laps of the 16-lap race. Sexton, who had worked his way up to P2 after a P4 start, passed Anderson on lap 10 and was never challenged, winning by 13 seconds. Anderson rode a lonely race to a P2 result, 10 seconds ahead of Plessinger, who took the second moto’s final podium spot and P2 overall ahead of Anderson. Lawrence finished in P4, 10 seconds behind Plessinger and almost seven seconds clear of Dylan Ferrandis. Cooper fell on the second lap while running in P3. Cooper dropped to P13 before rebounding to P7, which gave him P5 overall (3-&), tying on points with Lawrence (5-4).
After two weekends off, the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series resumes on August 10 for the Unadilla National at Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York. Check out our 2024 Pro Motocross Calendar and 2024 Pro Motocross Television Schedule for details.
