Harley-Davidson announced the voluntary recall of the 2022 Low Rider El Diablo (FXRST) and the 2022 to 2024 Low Rider ST (FXLRST) motorcycles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall number 24V753000, Harley-Davidson mailed out recall notices two days ago. Harley-Davidson dealers will inspect the affected units’ front brake lines and, where necessary, replace them free of charge. There have been no consumer complaints regarding the brake line issue.

Harley-Davidson Recalls 15,778 Low Riders - Front brake line

The Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST and Low Rider El Diablo motorcycles are being recalled because the hydraulic brake line between the front brake lever and brake calipers can rub on the fuel tank. This could potentially cause brake line damage, resulting in brake fluid loss and subsequent loss of front brake function.

The recall was triggered by nine field reports of the problem. Accelerated life testing was conducted by the Harley-Davidson structures lab to evaluate contact between the brake line and the fuel tank. Based on all the assessment data, a voluntary recall was initiated. Although 15,788 Harley-Davidson Low Rider motorcycles are part of the recall, no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the issue that triggered the recall.

The potential problem is caused by the front brake line possibly being bent during the assembly process. That could cause the brake line to contact the fuel tank. Over time, that contact could cause the brake line to wear through and leak.

Harley-Davidson’s number for this recall is 0187. Owners can contact Harley-Davidson customer service for additional information at 414-343-4056. The impacted VIN range for the 2022 Harley-Davidson Low Rider El Diablo is 1HD1YZZ12NB047117 to 1HD1YZZ19NB070460. This represents 739 motorcycles. The VIN range for the 2022 to 2024 Low Rider ST motorcycles (15,039 recalls) is 1HD1YXZ15NB010261 to 1HD1YXZ15RB050278.

We have reviewed the 2022 Harley-Davidson Low Rider El Diablo and the Low Rider ST.
