Where do you draw the line between a scooter and a motorcycle? The 2025 Italjet Dragster 700 Twin from the Italjet Style Center in Bologna makes that question a difficult one to answer.
The 2025 Italjet Dragster 700’s main scooter component is the trellis frame’s step-through design. While the two-wheeler lacks the full-coverage bodywork associated with a scooter, it does have a full front fairing with superbike-style aero. Also, there are two 15-inch wheels, which are definitely scooter attributes.
Italjet President and CEO Massimo Tartarini makes this argument for the categorization of the machine: “Much more like a motorcycle than a scooter, the Dragster 700 Twin creates a completely new category, ushering in a new era in the two-wheel sector.”
That leads us into the motorcycle portion of our presentation, and what makes the Dragster 700 Twin not a scooter.
The Benelli DOHC twin is matched to a fully manual six-speed transmission and clutch. A common definition for a scooter is a two-wheeler with a fully automatic transmission—the opposite of the Dragster 700 Twin.
Additionally, the 2025 Italjet Dragster 700 Twin is chain-driven. That goes against the scooter norm of direct drive or enclosed chain. Not even attempting to meet the scooter ethos, the chain is on public display, transmitting 68 horsepower from the motor to the rear wheel.
We have seen high-performance parts on scooters, and the 2025 Italjet Dragster 700 Twin takes that aspect very seriously.
The front suspension is a Marzocchi inverted fork. Öhlins contributes a fully adjustable laid-down piggyback-reservoir shock, along with a steering damper.
Radially mounted Brembo calipers in the front work on 270mm floating petal discs. The rear Brembo caliper does its work on a 230mm floating petal disc.
Other noteworthy features include dual Akrapovič underseat mufflers, a low-slung 4.2-gallon fuel tank, lever guards with integrated turn signals for dueling with traffic, and LED lighting.
While we don’t expect to see the 2025 Italjet Dragster 700 Twin in the United States—Italjet doesn’t have a US importer—we can still dream.
