It’s never easy to pick the top five in order at the start of any Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship season, and 2025 is no exception. No podium repeats from round 1 (Chase Sexton, Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson) to round 2 (Eli Tomac, Jett Lawrence, Cooper Webb) have led to a tight race in the standings, with four points separating the top four riders. With fingers crossed, here are my 2025 Anaheim 2 Supercross fantasy picks and tips for RMFantasySX.com players.
- After a disappointing A1 opener, Jett Lawrence bounced back to take second place in San Diego. Hungry to close the 10-point gap to the lead from his P5 position in the standings, Lawrence is poised for his first win of 2025 at A2. Between Lawrence’s improvement from the opening round and knowing how well he is capable of riding, I have him landing on the top of the podium for the first time this year. We’re used to seeing a variety of winners in the early rounds, and it looks like it’s Lawrence’s turn at the top of the podium at A2.
- Eli Tomac rode in championship form at San Diego. Tomac worked through the pack to win and kept Lawrence at bay the entire Main Event. That gives Tomac the red plate going into A2. While Lawrence has the motivation to win and close on the four riders ahead of him in the standings, if Tomac is the runner-up behind Lawrence, Tomac retains the series lead. As good as Tomac looks, Lawrence has the motivation edge, and that could be enough to keep Tomac in P2. An extra twist—Tomac is a three-time A2 winner, though not since 2022.
- Chase Sexton won when Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence faltered at A1—he can’t count on a repeat. Sexton’s bad start put him in comeback mode the entire night. We haven’t seen Sexton, Tomac, and Lawrence all riding up front yet this year, so it’s hard to tell who is fastest. Lawrence has the motivation, Tomac has the confidence, so I have Sexton regrouping for the final podium spot.
- Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb will battle it out for the remaining top five positions. It’s a bit of a toss-up. Roczen has gone 2-5 and Webb 5-3. That gives Webb the momentum, so I’ve got Webb in P4 and Roczen in P5. Feel free to swap those two.
- There are other riders worth of top-five consideration. Hunter Lawrence took P5 last week and Jason Anderson was on the A1 podium. However, I’ll need more consistency from both riders before putting them in the top five. Justin Barcia is in the ballpark with 6-7 finishes this year. Outside of that, you’re looking at longshots.
- As hard as it is to imagine, defending two-time MXGP champion Jorge Prado gets the Wild Card P12 nod. Prado has gone 14-12 in the first two rounds. Last year, he went 13-7-11-12 in the four rounds he rode. With that record, he’s the favorite for the P12 Wild Card. No one else has been consistently in the P12 region. The next best pick is Shane McElrath, who is 13-17 in the first two rounds. Justin Hill at 8-14 in two rounds is also worthy of consideration. Regardless, Prado is the Wild Card pick.
