Sena Universal Clamp Kit Review [For Multiple Helmet Owners]

My Sena 50C helmet-to-helmet mesh intercom and camera device is my go-to unit for most of my group rides. This Spring, it seemed like I was riding the Ultimate Motorcycling Yamaha Ténéré 700 Project Bike one weekend and riding my Yamaha Venture touring bike the next. When riding off-road, the features offered by my adventure helmet are essential. For long freeway rides, I lean toward the touring helmet.

Although it doesn’t take long to pull the mount, speakers, and mic out of my full-face helmet and install them in my adventure helmet, it still takes time and usually requires some Velcro replacements. Even when working on towels and a pillow, there is always a risk of scratching a faceshield. My weekly swapping of the Sena 50C intercom, microphone, and speakers between helmets was becoming a chore. Sure, I could buy another unit, but I’m naturally thrifty.

Sometimes I feel like I am the shortest knob on a worn tire, as it finally occurred to me that Sena must have replacement mounting kits. Sena offers a broad range of accessories for its mesh communications devices, including basic helmet clamp kit, kits with Harmon Kardon speakers, Harley-Davidson compatible clamp kits, Honda compatible clamp kits, a Bell Mag 9 clamp ki, and low-profile speakers. Sena also has kits to accommodate its Bluetooth range of helmet-to-helmet intercoms, all available through the company’s website.

In my case, the Sena 50C Universal Clamp Kit with Harman Kardon Speakers and Mics ($75 MSRP) was what I needed. It is a duplicate of the mounting system that comes with the 50C, so all you have to do is transfer the 50C from helmet to helmet. The convenience factor alone is worth the price of admission, especially if you own two or more helmets and swap between them as often as I do.
