If you want more power in BMW’s flagship XR ADV-style motorcycle, the 2024 BMW S 1000 XR has it. Described by BMW as a “long distance sports bike,” the big XR has ergonomic and detail updates to go along with the horsepower increase. Let’s see what it’s all about.
- The inline-4 gets a five-horsepower increase. Now putting out 170 horsepower at the same 11,000 rpm, the boost came from improved flow courtesy of new intakes and new engine mapping. Torque is unchanged, registering 84 ft-lbs with the motor spinning at 9250 rpm. A quickshifter is still optional, and the accessory is updated this year.
- A new seat headlines the ergonomic changes. With a seat height 33.5 inches off the ground, the 2024 BMW S 1000 XR’s new seat is longer and wider, accentuating the “long distance” aspect of BMW’s description of the model. Don’t worry—if you don’t like the stock seat, there are three M Sport seats available—taller, shorter, and the same height.
- With more power and a new seat comes new shock settings. The new damping rates are more compliant, with a focus on comfort.
- To complement the new seat, the S 1000 XR gets new side panels. The goal is a “more dynamic look,” according to a BMW insider.
- There are also styling updates in the front. In addition to the new air intakes, a textured surface has been added to the radiator trim, and the beak now matches the body color (previously, it was one-color-matches-all black).
- Headlight Pro is now standard. The XR now looks into corners for you after dark.
- The 2024 BMW S 1000 XR now has keyless ride and an emergency call feature as standard equipment. Also included on the XR is a 12 amp-hour battery (a 33 percent capacity increase) and a USB charging socket.
- There are four Packages available. You can add the Premium Package, which is highlighted by semi-active suspension, cruise control, and a quickshifter. The M Package has a Sport seat, Sport muffler, and upgraded wheels. There is also an M Carbon Package (side panels, front fender, ignition lock cover) and Milled Billet Package (rider and passenger footrests, brake and clutch levers).
- The 2024 BMW S 1000 XR has an MSRP of $17,495. Don’t be in a hurry—dealers won’t have it until the second quarter of 2024.
