The world of Monster Energy AMA Supercross was rocked this week by the news that defending champion Jett Lawrence suffered a torn ACL in Race 3 at last Saturday’s Glendale Triple Crown round. With Jett out for the rest of the 2025 Supercross Championship Series, the already small pool of top-five riders for RMFantasySX players to choose from has shrunk. The table has been set, so let’s feast on our 2025 Tampa Bay Supercross fantasy picks and tips.
- Only seven riders have achieved top-five finishes in 2025’s four rounds. With Lawrence out, that knocks it down to six top-five finishers lining up. If you’d like, you can add Justin Cooper and Justin Hill to the mix, as they would have had a top-five finish if you take Jett out of the equation. While they have potential, the pair is still a longshot for the top five
- Redirecting to the front, Chase Sexton takes over the leadership position. Sexton has the red plate, and is the only rider with two wins. That makes Sexton the favorite to win at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.
- Ken Roczen is the master of the podium, knowing all about P2 this year. Roczen has two runner-up finishes in 2025, and is the only rider with three podiums. Roczen doesn’t appear to have a race-winning pace for 20 minutes plus one lap, so picking him to win is tough. However, he is four-for-four in top-four finishes, so P2 it is for Roczen, who is just two points out of the lead in his quest for his first 450SX title.
- After a hiccup at A2, Cooper Webb is back on track. The two-time Supercross champion has gone 4-3-8-2. That makes Webb a solid podium contender, though, like Roczen, he has yet to find a win. Between Webb and Roczen, it will probably come down to the start. Still, Roczen has two P2 and a P3, so Webb is ever-so-slightly more likely to end up in P3.
- Everyone talks about Eli Tomac’s speed this year, though his finishing positions don’t reflect that. This makes Tomac a difficult call. Four rounds in, Tomac has just one podium—a win at San Diego. So, a 5-1-7-4 run is not good enough to be a podium pick. However, that does make Tomac a strong top-five selection. I’ve got him for P5.
- Hunter Lawrence is the King Of P5! With three P5 finishes in a row, you have to ride the momentum. P5 it is for Hunter.
- Your speculative pick for a top-five finish is Jason Anderson. The 2018 Supercross Champion. It’s feast or famine for Anderson, who has gone 3-13-3-7. Anderson could be on the podium, or outside of the top 10. Which it will be in Tampa Bay is anyone’s guess.
- The Wild Card is P15, and the lower you go in the order, the more complicated things are to predict. There are two top choices. Colt Nichols is on an 18-14-16 run, and Shane McElrath has gone 13-17-17-14 in 2025. Joey Savatgy was P15 last week, and also a good pick due to his 21-10-11-15 record this year. Justin Hill is a high-risk pick due to his 8-14-15-6 performances. You can keep an eye on Mitch Oldenburg thanks to his 16-19-13-17 account. If he were entered, Vince Friese would be the favorite, with two P15s this year, but he won’t be lining up. In a close call, I’m going with Nichols, as he has been within one spot of P15 the last two weeks.
