Adventure touring is probably the most challenging type of riding to gear up for. Your day might start with freezing temps and long stretches of highway, only to end with you sweating as you muscle your bike through off-road terrain with little airflow moving through your gear. The Spidi Allroad jacket takes a multi-layer approach to its design, and that includes unique and welcome features.
Gear manufacturers have recognized this challenge and brought to market a variety of approaches. In addition to riding throughout the American Southwest, I wore the Spidi Allroad H2Out jacket in harsh Scottish weather when testing the 2024 Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorers.
After discussing sizing with Spidi, I opted for an XL, one size up from my usual Large. This isn’t unusual with European gear, as the Italian cut runs slightly smaller than U.S. sizing. When it arrived, especially with all the layers zipped in, the fit was roomy but right overall. Trying it on for the first time, I was immediately impressed with the material quality and design.
The outer shell, made from high-tenacity Extra Tenax fabric, felt robust and abrasion-resistant. It’s equipped with a variety of vents, pockets, and cinch straps on the arms and body for dialing in the fit.
Ventilation is excellent thanks to wrist-to-elbow zippered vents, chest vents that reveal large mesh panels when fully open, and a similarly designed roll-up cover over an expansive mesh back panel.
Storage is also a standout feature, with multiple waterproof front pockets and a large rear pouch. While the outer fabric and zippers aren’t fully waterproof, the shell is water-resistant.
The jacket also comes with two inner layers—a zip-in puffy jacket that can be worn off the bike, and an H2Out waterproof liner with a very thoughtful design. On mildly wet days, you can wear the waterproof liner inside the shell, keeping you dry but allowing the shell to get wet. On heavier rain days, you can wear the liner outside the jacket, which is a brilliant feature. Being able to keep the shell from soaking through and getting heavy—while avoiding that clammy feeling against your skin—is a big win in my book.
The Spidi Allroad H2Out jacket meets CE Class AA standards. That’s the middle of three, with Level A being for urban use and Level AAA for high-performance riding. Spidi’s ForceTech armor provides top-notch CE Level 2 elbow and shoulder protection. You’re on your own for back and chest protection, as some riders have favored armor brands or wear an airbag.
The versatile Spidi Allroad H2Out jacket is ready for the unpredictable demands of adventure touring. Its multi-layer system, robust materials, and clever features, make it ideal for riders facing everything from frigid highways to high-temperature off-road rides. With excellent ventilation, ample storage, and a Class AA duty CE rating, the Allroad strikes a fine balance between comfort and protection. Whether you’re carving through the Scottish Highlands or tackling dusty trails in the American Southwest, the Spidi Allroad H2Out jacket is built to handle the journey with you.
